Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know!

Are you licensed?

We are fully licensed by Poole Borough Council, and abide by all bylaws with respect to tattooing under Section 15 (7) of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982. This means that we meet or exceed all relevant hygiene and sanitation requirements.

How old do I have to be to get a tattoo?

18. This is a legal requirement and there is no leeway, regardless of parental consent. Please ensure you bring proof of age to your appointment.

Where are you located?

The Rising Tide Tattoo Collective is based at 166-168 Ashley Road, Parkstone, Poole, BH14 9BY, UK. Check out our contact page to find out how to get to us.

Will you create a custom design for me?

We love to do custom work! We will create your design once a booking has been made and secured with a deposit. Nothing will be tattooed until you are entirely happy with the design, and you can arrange with your artist to see the design before you appointment.

How much will my tattoo cost?

The cost of your tattoo will depend on many factors such as the size, placement, amount of detail and complexity of the design. Full colour tattoos generally take longer than black and grey, and a detailed portrait will take longer than traditional flowers. It also depends on how well you can sit through the session, if you need lots of breaks the tattoo will take longer to complete and therefore cost more. To find out the price of a tattoo please email bookings@therisingtide.tattoo with as much information as possible about the tattoo you would like to get. Please note we have a £60 minimum set up charge.

How do I book an appointment?

Tattoo Appointment

You can book an appointment by filling out our online booking form and we will email you back with a quote and availability for the appointment date you have requested. Alternatively email bookings@therisingtide.tattoo. Please note that all bookings require a deposit (usually up to £80 for a day session or £60 for a half day. This can be paid in cash at the studio, via bank transfer, or Paypal.

Laser Tattoo Removal Appointment

You can book a free patch test by filling out our online booking form and Matt will email you back to confirm your booking.

If you wish to book a laser session following your patch test, please email matt@therisingtide.tattoo or call 01202 733 380.

Can I pop in to discuss my ideas?

Of course, we’d love to help you in creating your perfect tattoo! To avoid disappointment we recommend you contact us in advance to make sure the relevant artist will be available at the studio at the time of your visit.

Do you do touch up and cover ups?

Yes we do cover up tattoos but please be aware that your options will be more limited than a tattoo on clear skin. To ensure the old tattoo doesn’t show through once it’s healed, a cover up must be larger and darker than the existing tattoo.

If we deem the tattoo to be beyond repair you will need to book a few laser tattoo removal sessions to fade the tattoo down enough for one of our artists to cover it.

We are more than happy to advise you of all your options if you have a tattoo you’re not happy with, just get in touch and we will help you come up with a solution.

Do you do weekend or evening appointments?

We are open Saturdays and Sundays, but we do not offer evening appointments.

What inks do you use?

We mostly use Fusion, Eternal and World Famous tattoo inks, which are thoroughly safety checked (Fusion | Eternal | World Famous).

All of the inks we use are free from animal ingredients and suitable for vegans.

Are your tattoos vegan friendly?

Yes, the studio is owned and run by a vegan so everything used in the tattoo process is fully vegan and non animal tested.

This includes:

  • tattoo beds & chairs – we do not have any leather products in the studio
  • any disinfectant we use to cleanse your skin, including the green soap (we always use soap made from plant based glycerine)
  • razors – we do not use razors with moisturising strips which can sometimes contain animal ingredients
  • gloves – we use nitrile rather than the traditional latex gloves which contain milk
  • marker pens – if we free-hand any of your tattoo design we use a vegan friendly, non animal tested alternative to Sharpies.
  • vegan transfer paper which we use to create your stencil – it is free from lanolin, beeswax, and animal derived glycerine
  • Stencil Stuff to transfer the stencil from the paper to your skin
  • Hustle Butter, Butterluxe, and After Inked which can be used during the tattoo process
  • numbing sprays
  • our inks – we use Eternal, Fusion, World Famous Inks
  • after care products – we stock Missy Le Pink Tattoo Tonic and After Inked
  • all our studio refreshments

Can I bring a friend with me?

Tattoo Appointments

We ask that you come alone to appointments except for carers, due to Covid-19 measures and limited space in the studio. If you have any concerns, please contact your artist to discuss.

Please note, that children are not allowed into the tattoo area.

How should I look after my new tattoo?

Your tattoo artist will explain the aftercare process with you during your appointment. We know it can be a lot to take in after a long session so we will also give you an aftercare leaflet to take home as an extra reminder.

In addition we have an aftercare page on our website, it can be useful to read it before your appointment so that you know what to expect and can make sure you have everything you need.

We sell aftercare lotion in store, so if you haven’t purchased any prior to your appointment you can buy it from us on the day of your appointment.

How to I apply for an apprenticeship?
